Long gone are the times of fighting for equality for African-Americans, women, and those reaching back as far as the time of Jesus Christ, or are they? What would it have meant to be an African-American lesbian in 1953? What does it mean to be an African-American lesbian today? Cheyenne Smith, the granddaughter of Hazel Ward-Smith, finds herself looking in the mirror wondering what it means to be who she is today as she is discouraged to find out that her home state of Virginia has a constitutional ban that will not be lifted on same sex marriage. The same state where fifty years earlier Hazel Ward-Smith walked the streets ashamed, and fearful of whom she was inwardly and outwardly. This is a story of legacy, trial, and triumph as I look in MY MIRROR, and see YOUR REFLECTION.
